Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage and the city is home to many museums and places of interest to visit. There are museums representing art, archaeology, history, sports, architecture, science and war. Opening hours can vary and are best checked with the local Tourist Office. The Barcelona CardThe Barcelona Card is a pass that allows free public transport and discounts at museums, cultural venues, restaurants and shops. Passes are available for 2, 3, 4 or 5 days. For children under three the pass is free and for children aged four to twelve there is a reduced charge. The pass includes a guidebook of the city in a number of languages including English and a map of the city and the metro network.
ArticketArticket is a pass that is valid for six months. The holder is entitled to admission at the following museums for permanent and special exhibitions:
The card can be bought from travel agencies, at the participating museums, from tourist offices or from any of the branches of the Caixa de Catalunya.
Museums in BarcelonaThere are over 50 museums in Barcelona. Here are just a few: Picasso Museum (Museo Picasso): Housing over 3,500 pieces, the museum shows many of Picasso's early works up to the Blue Period. Guided tours are available in a number of languages including English.
Joan Mirķ Foundation (Fundaciķn Joan Mirķ): Permanent collection of paintings, tapestries and sculptures. A set of black and white lithographs known as the "Barcelona Series" are also on display. Temporary exhibitions presenting works of other artists are held regularly.
National Art Museum of Catalonia (Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya- MNAC): The museum has collections of Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque, Renaissance and modern art.
Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum (Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona - MACBA): Collection of works from the second half of the twentieth century by Catalonian, Spanish and international artists.
Barcelona Football Club Museum (Museu Futbol Club Barcelona): One of the most visited museums in Barcelona with a collection of sport artefacts dating back a hundred years. Also on display is the Futbolart Collection, which includes a number of antiques and curiosities relating to the history of football.
