Animal Organisations in Barcelona

Pet shelters and refuges, animal rights organisations and other Spanish associations for the protection of cats, dogs and other animals.

Provision for abused and abandoned animals in Spain is growing, and even though regulations are not consistent throughout the country, more and more organisations are claiming animal rights; there have been cases of people being fined for abusing animals.

Animal Associations in Spain

There are many organisations that take care of animals in Spain. For a comprehensive list with contact information and web-links see the French Protection des Animaux website.

The FAADA (Spanish Foundation for the Adoptions, Patronage and Protection of Animals) publishes a fairly comprehensive list of all animal shelters/refuges (protectoras) in Spain.

ANAA (Asociación Nacional Amigos de los Animales) is a national animal organisation founded in Madrid. It campaigns to protect animals, encourage responsible ownership, prevent cruelty and animal shows. In addition ANAA attempts to re-home abandoned and unwanted pets in Spain
